One easy way I do in the salon for people, take a section from where you want a poof, spray a little hairspray on the bottom of it and using either a fine tooth comb or a three prong comb (you can get them at sally's, they're buy the piks and other combs, it has three rows of teeth) and brush toward your scalp, its called back combing, spray it again with hair spray, take another section just below or above (however big you want your bump, small bump: 2 or more sections Big bump:3 or more.) Make sure you are doing underneath your hair, After you are don't use a pick or large tooth comb and smooth it out. Another great utensil to get at sally's in the same section is a pik but it has another row of teeth just shorter than the rest, you can use this after you smooth your bump down, stick it directly in your bump and lift up and spray with hair spray. It's actually quite simple, a little faster doing it than reading it. hope this helps.

Hello.. Im a flight stewardess and our standard hairstyle is to bun our hair with a puff. Ok, the way I do it everyday (for a small puff using only your fringe) is:

- take a section of your hair (the section just above forehead)

- comb it to the top of your head

- push it slightly forward, twist it, pin it down with a black pin

- hairspray it

Another way of doing a bigger puff (which I personally prefer) is:

- take half of your hair, from the back of your ears

- use a rubberband and tie a loose ponytail

- lift it and push it up to achieve the height of the puff you want

- take a hair clip (the ones that look like a spider, its legs spread out when you depress the handle) secure and hide the rubberband

And practise makes perfect!
